At Parkland Pre-K, reading starts with curiosity! 💙🐂
Before our little learners can read all the words on a page, they can become picture detectives! 🔎📖 During a fun picture walk, students look closely at the illustrations, talk about what they see, make predictions, and create their own ideas about what might happen in the story.
“Who do you see?” 👀
“What do you think is going to happen?” 🤔
“Why do you think that?” 💭
These simple conversations are actually building BIG reading skills! Picture walks help children develop vocabulary, comprehension, storytelling, sequencing, and confidence all while having fun with books.
Parents, you can try it at home, too! ❤️ The next time you read a new book together, don't worry about reading the words right away. Flip through the pages, look at the pictures, and let your child tell YOU the story!
